Wow, Another Epic Invention

I'm sure we all remember that famous scene in the very first classical Star Wars movie: Where Princess Leia uses R2-D2 (major win) and records and a 3-D image of herself pleading for help.

A famous Star Wars Scene; now a reality

Now guess what? Yet another once fictional concept has been brought to life! WOOT!
These American researchers have developed a system that can record a moving 3D image of something and display it at any place, at any time. The system uses a type of plastic material that can update a holographic image every two seconds.

Although its image size, updating speed and colour range has yet to be developed, it is already pretty accurate. The prototype system uses sixteen cameras to take pictures of a subject from a variety of angles, and the info is then fed into a computer and sent down a speedy internet connection to a different location where lasers produce a coloured 3D image of the subject. Pretty damn epic eh?

Although it may still be at least seven years until this system becomes a commercial proposition, it is still sooooooo exciting to think what it could be used for.

I see a future of 3D holographic advertising, a replacement to video cameras (think of recording your childhood, and watching it in a realistic 3D format when you're older!!!!), and just a brand new technologically advanced world (that is dead from pollution).

Hmmm....
